The Idol Test

(An oldie journal piece enjoys)

All I have to say I heard this once described and it rings truth so loud to me. The best way to know if you have an idol in your heart is simply the same way you would judge if you’re a drug addict or alcoholic.

It is not how much you consume that will tell you. The truth lies in how you react when it is taken away!!!

When you can’t have it what do you do? Now usually an addict will get belligerent depending on how dependent on the substance. When the Lord starts dealing with our hearts, I am finding we can be quite surprised what is uncovered inside. Things we never even knew were right there. All our hidden sin from everyone but Jesus Christ, our ugly idols.

I mean everything at one point of my life was an idol. Even normal things like work, careers, it can be anything of this world that is dying. Areas I placed my identity in. I am not defined by what job I have or how much money I have in my bank account. Everything was an earthly striving to succeed and what that looked like on the world's scale.

However, I lived like that with everything. Selfish ambitions no Kingdom mindset. The truth is we all can end up harpooned on this snare quickly and easily why? Because it feels good so we think nothing of it.

Sometimes our pursuits are good, but are they the Father's will for our lives? Because every opportunity is not His blessing and every open door He did not open for us.

The trap of equating success in created things instead of the creator our Heavenly Father.

Short post. I challenge us all to ask the Holy Spirit to lead us and be thankful for every single idol identified and removed from our hearts. Before they remove us.

Heavenly Father In the name of Jesus,

Thank you for your grace and mercy. I praise you for your love endures forever. I pray Father that you will give us the courage to live righteously because you’re Holy. I want to be just like you. Help us all Lord. Save me from me. Save all who read this from falling into the trap of worshipping false gods that lead to death. I pray each and every one of us will be granted your divine wisdom and not the sensual demonic wisdom of this world. Let us know what is of real value in our lives and boldly we ask to you remove everything else.

I pray this in the name of the KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS
